"Free Besieged"
In September 2010, Mary Papademas unveiled her profound collection "Free Besieged" at the Cultural Center of the Bank of Cyprus in Nicosia. This compelling series drew inspiration from the epic, unfinished masterpiece by renowned Greek poet Dionysios Solomos.
Through these paintings, Papademas skillfully captured the essence of temptation and spiritual struggle that characterizes Solomos' work. A distinctive feature of this collection was her masterful use of sharp contrasts between light and shadow, dramatically enhanced by the metallic brilliance of silver and gold paint media. This technical approach created a visual tension that reinforced the thematic exploration of internal conflict.
The exhibition was honored with an inaugural ceremony by Parliamentary Spokesman Nicos Katsourides. Demonstrating her ongoing commitment to social causes, Papademas directed a portion of the exhibition proceeds to the Cyprus Anti-Cancer Society, merging artistic expression with philanthropic purpose.
